Gilbert's Public Works Department asks residents not to overfill trash and recycling bins and notes that pool noodles are not recyclable.

The Town of Gilbert’s Public Works Department is asking for the public's help to keep the town clean and safe by not overfilling trash and recycling containers.
When trash and recycling containers are overfilled or boxes aren't broken down, the department said it can lead to an increase of fire risks due to heat buildup near truck exhaust systems; damage to the hydraulic lines on collection trucks, leading to costly repairs; creating unnecessary mess in neighborhoods when items fly out of the bin during collection.
Proper recycling and trash disposal help keep our community clean, reduces maintenance costs, ensures the safety of our collection crews, and improves efficiency.

Spills cause delays in our service as crews spend an average of two minutes cleaning up compared to just 7-10 seconds to service a can. The department asks residents to:
Break down cardboard boxes before placing them in their recycling bin;
Not overflow bins and make sure lids close;
Not force large items into the bin, but instead place them out during bulk trash pickup;
Place pool noodles in the trash container as they are not recyclable.
Residents can order an additional black container for $14.90 a month by calling customer service at 480-503-6400.
