Gilbert Public Schools has strengthened security across its campuses with improved visitor screening, emergency communications and staff training while identifying additional safety improvements that could depend on voter approval of a bond.
District safety officials outlined the changes during an Oct. 13 governing board study session, describing improvements made over the past year and plans to address remaining vulnerabilities at schools.
Among the findings was that a visitor screening system introduced last October has flagged 16 attempts to enter restricted campus areas by individuals identified as registered sex offenders or prohibited from entering under court orders.
