Gilbert delays data center regulations over concerns about smaller facilities

Gilbert Town Council delayed adopting sweeping new data center regulations Oct. 20, giving staff more time to address concerns about smaller facilities and rapidly changing technology.

The council voted 6-1 to continue consideration of land development code amendments until Dec. 15, despite staff recommendations to adopt them immediately.

Councilmember Kenny Buckland cast the dissenting vote, arguing Gilbert should put stronger protections in place now and revise them as necessary.
