School Participatory Budgeting, a civic learning initiative, is being implemented this year across the Higley Unified School District to build student agency, collaboration and critical‑thinking skills.
Through the program, students receive a designated budget to research, propose and vote on a project intended to benefit their school community.
Gateway Pointe Elementary Principal Katy Harris said the program gives students “a meaningful voice and a true sense of ownership,” allowing them to see how their opinions influence school decisions.
