Gilbert pauses five ‘quality of life’ projects for review

Gilbert Town Council voted Oct. 28 to delay action on five “quality of life” capital improvement projects funded by a sales tax increase, opting to revisit them in December following the council’s fall retreat.

The “quality of life” program was created after council approved a sales tax increase last year to fund park, recreation and cultural amenities across town. The initiative identified a series of new or expanded projects intended to enhance public safety and community spaces and recreation options for residents.

Six projects tied to the initiative appeared on the council’s consent agenda but were pulled for separate discussion. After a lengthy debate about timing, priorities and budget pressures, council voted 7–0 to continue five of the items to the Dec. 16 meeting.
