Looking out for seniors in the Sun Cities

Gives back to Banner Health

Posted

It has been three years since new franchise owners began serving seniors in the Sun Cities.

Home Instead, 14621 N. Dell Webb Blvd. Sun City, held a food drive while sharing resources for seniors at the Banner Olive Branch Senior Center, 13049 N. 103rd Ave, Sun City. This includes services and activities that help improve the nutritional choices seniors are making and help to promote healthy living.

Community partners are key to the success of both Banner Olive Branch Senior Center and Home Instead, according to Julie Ash, community outreach representative. Seniors can visit the senior center and pick up needed food from the pantry or take part in the delivered meal program, if individuals meet the qualifications.

Topic Tuesdays are also a resource offered through Home Instead and Vicki Castleman, Home Instead owner, said the events focus on both resources for residents and bring in leading experts.

“Our whole focus here at Home Instead is helping people remain independent for as long as possible wherever they call home,” Castleman said.

Anything from safety and companionship to advanced dementia support, as well as customized plans for individuals.

Home Instead is considered a non-medical solution and services including a plan to care and the agency hires the caregivers, sets up scheduling, and takes the burden off the families. However, Castleman said 10%-15% are individuals have a long term care policy and that will cover services.

“We are just one piece of the puzzle when it comes to taking care of the seniors, and partnering if Banner Olive Branch Senior Center to help with nutritional services is just one way we can all work together,” she said.
