Walk-4-Unity human rights event Dec. 7 in west Chandler park

Walk-4-Unity is an event set to be held Saturday, Dec. 7 at Desert Breeze Park in west Chandler.

The event, set to last from 9 a.m. to noon, is a free event for all people who care about human rights and the equality of all peoples, according to a news release.

The Walk-4 Unity is an annual event held in concurrence with United Nations Human Rights Day. The theme of the 2024 event is The Equality of Women and Men.

The annual event provides an opportunity for community members to interact with many others who may be different from themselves and to build lasting friendships, the release states The event focuses on eliminating prejudice by spotlighting and sharing the richness of the East Valley community’s diverse culture.

Desert Breeze Park has a 1-mile paved path and a large pavilion for gathering and activities. The event will begin with a short introduction, music by rapper Colby Jeffers, then the Walk participants traverse the path by running, walking or pushing a stroller or wheelchair.

Other entertainment and activities are provided that support the values of human rights, diversity, equity, and inclusion, the release states.

Collection of new household items donation for My Sister’s Place, a nonprofit that provides shelter to victims of domestic violence and human trafficking.

Dec. 7, 2024, marks the 76th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Walk-4-Unity strives to promote race amity, inclusion and equity, the release states.

A continental breakfast and water will be provided to all participants free of charge as supplies last. Free Walk-4-Unity T-shirts will be given away to participants — also, as supplies last.

Participants will be invited to decorate a banner with a personal symbol of their uniqueness.

Collaborating organizations include the United Nations Association – Phoenix Chapter, Chandler4Change, Baha’is of Chandler is a Chandler and My Sister’s Place.
