Declining enrollment keeps Chandler district from earning facilities board funds

The Chandler Unified School District does not qualify for state funding from the Arizona School Facilities Board, according to a report being submitted from the district to the board.

The CUSD Governing Board unanimously approved a draft of the report at its Aug. 21 meeting. But the report is subject to revision, Chief Financial Officer Lana Berry said.

However, it is unlikely any revision would change the conclusion about the district’s eligibility for funding on new construction as the district’s enrollment has been declining. The funding is based on “minimum adequacy guidelines” that are based on enrollment projections and square footage.
