Choir with ties to Sun Lakes, Chandler preps for benefit show

In 1994, a small support group of men and women with Parkinson’s disease met with a speech pathologist at Scottsdale Memorial Hospital.

The result of this meeting was Tremble Clefs Arizona — a choir group comprised of people with Parkinson’s, as well as their families and care partners.

For the past 31 years, the group has been providing music therapy to member groups in Sun City, Scottsdale, Mesa and Sun Lakes, helping people whose normal functions, such as speech and posture, are declining due to Parkinson’s.

On Nov. 15, TCAZ will host an anniversary fundraising concert at the Jewish Community Center in Scottsdale to celebrate them being the longest-serving and largest Parkinson’s choir in the U.S., according to a press release.

The event starts at 1 p.m. and is free.

The group currently has more than 70 members. Those include the Sun Lakes Tremble Clefs, who meet at the Sun Lakes First Baptist Church in Sun Lakes and include members from Chandler.

The Music Director of the Tremble Clefs is Dr. Sun Joo Lee, who recently earned her Doctorate in Music Therapy.

The Jewish Community Center will be located at 12701 N. Scottsdale Rd. For more information, click here.
