Dignity Health Chandler Regional Medical Center has been named a “Top Teaching Hospital” by The Leapfrog Group.

A news release claims it’s a high competitive honor that hospitals and surgery centers in the U.S. can receive to show commitment to safety and quality.

“We are immensely proud to be recognized as a leading teaching hospital,” said Dr. Mario Garner, President of Dignity Health East Valley. “Our ultimate goal is to nurture highly skilled clinicians right here in our community.”

Chandler Regional is one of the local teaching hospitals for graduate medical education students through the Creighton University East Valley Arizona program.

Residencies offered at Dignity Health Chandler Regional Medical Center include emergency medicine, family medicine, general surgery, internal medicine and OBGYN.

More than 2,400 U.S. hospitals were considered for the award. A total of 156 “Top” hospitals were selected, the release states, with Chandler Regional and 72 other facilities earning “Top Teaching” honors.

The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit watchdog organization that rates hospitals and ASCs — ambulatory surgery centers, which are specialized outpatient facilities — on how well they protect patients from preventable harm, including accidents, injuries and infections.

The Leapfrog Top Hospital award is given to teaching, general, rural and children’s hospitals that publicly report their performance, the release states.

This is done through the Leapfrog Hospital Survey. Facilities must meet the standards defined in the Top Hospitals methodology, including infection rates, maternity care and a hospital’s ability to prevent medication errors, among other standards.
