Gas prices are seen Friday morning at the Walmart at 79th Avenue and Peoria Road in Peoria. Gas prices dropped 13 cents a gallon in the Valley over the past week.
Gas prices in Arizona rose by a cent this week to top out at $4.63 a gallon, according to AAA Arizona on Friday.
Prices rose two cents in the Valley to hit $4.78 a gallon. Tempe also sees this rise with many places at $4. 79 per gallon and Costco being the least expensive at $4.25 according to GasBuddy.
“Crude oil prices have come down below $100 a barrel, helping drive down the cost of gasoline for consumers,” said AAA Mountain West Group spokesperson Julian Paredes in a release. “Whether this downward trend will persist remains in question with the continued instability along the Strait of Hormuz.”
Earlier in the week prices had dropped to about $4.60 a gallon in the Valley. The prices still remain $1.25 above what customers paid a year ago at this time.
At the close of Wednesday’s formal trading session, oil rose $3.29 to settle at $92.96 a barrel. The Energy Information Administration reported crude oil inventories increased by 1.9 million barrels from the previous week. At 465.7 million barrels, U.S. crude oil inventories are about 3% above the five-year average for this time of year.
Gasoline demand decreased last week from 9.08 million barrels a day to 9.05 million. Total domestic gasoline supply decreased from 232.9 million barrels to 228.4 million. Gasoline production increased last week, averaging 10.1 million barrels per day.
According to gasbuddy.com, the cheapest gas in the Valley continues to be at the Sam’s Club at Tempe Marketplace ($3.54) and at Costco near Baseline Road and Country Club Drive in Gilbert ($3.59).
