Arizona Theatre Company has named Tucson-based stage manager Mollie Heil its Resident Artist for the 2026-27 season, continuing a program designed to provide Arizona theater professionals with sustained paid employment.
ATC launched the Resident Artist program in 2024 to give selected Arizona-based artists a full season of work rather than hiring them for individual productions. The program encompasses performers, designers, stage managers and other theater professionals.
Heil will serve as stage manager for ATC’s production of “Little Shop of Horrors” and assistant stage manager for “August Wilson’s Gem of the Ocean.” She also will participate in educational and community programs during the season.
Heil’s relationship with ATC began in 2018 as a stage management intern. After returning to Tucson in 2020, she worked on more than 10 ATC productions over six consecutive seasons, progressing from intern to assistant stage manager and stage manager. Her credits include “The Roommate,” “Scrooge!,” “Master Class” and “The Legend of Georgia McBride.”
“A professional stage manager’s dream is to find an organization like Arizona Theatre Company that makes them feel completely at home in their work,” Heil shared in a press release. “I found that my very first season with ATC as a Stage Management Intern in the fall of 2018 and knew I wanted to live in Tucson and work with ATC. I love Arizona Theatre Company and the Tucson and Tempe/Phoenix communities, and I am incredibly lucky to do what I love in a place and with a company that means so much to me.”
Arizona Theatre Company will present “Proof” Oct. 24–Nov. 8 at Tempe Center for the Arts. Click here for tickets.
