Surprise residents are invited to a free child car seat checkup event hosted by the Surprise Fire-Medical and Police Departments.
It's scheduled for 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21 in the Target parking lot, 13731 E. Bell Road.
What to bring for your inspection:
Your child; if you can’t get them safely to the inspection site, please bring their weight and height measurements.
Your vehicle owner’s manual, if you have it.
Your child seat owner’s manual, if you have it.
A positive attitude and desire to ensure your little ones are as safe as possible!
This safety event is focused on educating parents and caregivers about the importance of protecting children during every stage of development.
This means having the right safety measures in place, from car seats to booster seats and seat belt use.
Recent data shows about 94% of children transitioned from the safety seat to a seat belt before they fit correctly.
This event is part of Child Passenger Safety Week (Sept. 15 to 21) and National Seat Check Saturday and is funded through the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety.
Those not able to attend this event and need assistance with the proper installation of a child safety seat can attend the city’s monthly car seat clinics.
They are currently offered at Fire Station 307, 16171 Cactus Road from 9 to 10:45 a.m. on the first and third Tuesday and third Saturday of each month. No appointment is necessary; assistance is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
