The city of Surprise will present the first draft of code changes for the proposed Desert Rural Zoning District during a community meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 29.

Residents and rural residential property owners are encouraged to attend to learn about the code changes and provide feedback.

The meeting is scheduled for 6 to 7 p.m. at Asante Library, 16755 W. Vereda Solana Drive.

City staff are working to collect feedback on the proposed Desert Rural Zoning District as they work toward establishing development standards that preserve the character and lifestyle of existing rural residential neighborhoods within Surprise’s existing traditional rural communities.

The Desert Rural Zoning designation is a proposed zoning district intended to recognize, preserve, protect, and enhance the character and quality of life within Surprise’s existing traditional rural communities, while also allowing for compatible surrounding development.

This is the fifth community meeting on the proposed zoning district as part of the larger outreach efforts that kicked off in August.

Residents who want to provide feedback before or after the meeting can use the “Submit Online Comments” button on the Desert Rural Zoning webpage at  surpriseaz.gov/DesertRural.

The webpage also allows residents to sign up for notifications about the process, learn more about the Desert Rural Zoning Designation, including a list of Frequently Asked Questions, see the Desert Rural Overlay map, view past meeting materials or check on any upcoming meeting dates.
