Benevilla was named one of six Arizona nonprofits to receive the Ken Kendrick Grand Slam Award, a signature grant of the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation’s “D-backs Give Back” initiative.

This year, the foundation is donating a combined $946,000 to support transformative projects across Arizona.

The funds awarded to Benevilla will support the expansion and renovation of Benefitness Adaptive Gym, a program that promotes health and wellness, strength and mobility and independence for adults with different abilities, special considerations and chronic medical conditions.

This project will expand the program’s physical footprint and increase its capacity to serve individuals in need of specialized fitness services.

“We are incredibly honored to receive the Ken Kendrick Grand Slam Award,” said Joanne Byers, president and CEO of Benevilla, in a press release. “This vital funding will help us grow the Benefitness program to meet the increasing demand for adaptive wellness services in our community. Thanks to the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation, we can further our mission to enhance lives through dignity, compassion and purpose.”

Named in honor of Diamondbacks General Managing Partner Ken Kendrick, the Ken Kendrick Grand Slam Award has provided more than $11.2 million in funding to support large-scale, high-impact projects that improve operations, expand services and create lasting change in Arizona communities.

“We are thrilled to support Benevilla through the Ken Kendrick Grand Slam Awards and help them deepen their impact in the West Valley and beyond,” said Derrick Hall, president, CEO and general partner, in a press release. “This grant program was specifically intended to help organizations broaden their reach and make lasting changes, and Benevilla’s new Adaptive Gym is going to do just that by empowering more of our most vulnerable community members to live a healthier and more rewarding lifestyle.”

Benefitness Adaptive Gym is unique with its approach to both group classes and individual sessions, which are lead by nationally certified professionals.

The goal is to help participants improve their quality of life by increasing their strength, mobility and ability to better perform activities of daily living.
