County board approves rezone of 5,000-home Morristown development

Project on 1,000 acres along U.S. 60 went before P & Z three times

PHOENIX — The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors has approved one step for a major housing project in the northwest Valley that has major opposition.

At a meeting last week, the board unanimously approved an amendment to the White Tank Grand Avenue Comprehensive Plan.

The amendment will allow the developer to go to the city of Surprise for rezoning and permit approvals for Santa Barbara Ranch, a proposed 5,000-home community on 1,000 acres in the Morristown area.
