Affordable housing developer closes on Surprise land

Posted

A multifamily affordable housing developer has closed on a parcel of land that will eventually bring 599 apartments to western Surprise.

Dominium closed on land near the southwest corner of Waddel Road and Cotton Lane that will be home to two affordable housing complexes, according to a press release Tuesday.

The company did not disclose financial terms of the deal.

Domnium will develop the 388-unit Arterra for families and the 211-unit Orchard Springs for seniors on the land.

The dual projects drew considerable opposition from neighboring residents as a referendum was ultimately rejected by the city following several contentious meetings where residents voiced concerns about the development.

The company has been working on affordable housings developments across the Valley, including breaking ground in October 2023 on one in Goodyear. It also has plans for one in Glendale.
