Sun City West residents asked to help wildlife project

Study is aimed at human-carnivore interactions

Residents in the Sun Cities often see coyotes roaming the community and some have experienced bobcat families right outside the back door.

The Watching Carnivores Project approached the Recreation Centers of Sun City West officials to see if the community could get involved. According to RCSCW General Services Officer Katy O’Grady, post graduate research student at Falmouth University Claire Musser is seeking help with the project’s educational component to track coyote and bobcat interactions and sightings in both Sun City and Sun City West.

“The goal is to notice trends and track the interactions to see if there is away to reduce negative interactions with humans,” she said during the June 15 governing board workshop.
