Driving is atrocious in Sun City West

Posted

OPINION — In response to the article on poor driving in Sun City West, look more to the past than the future.

How did we get here? Look at the people, that’s where the problem started. Look at the contractors, people say we need all of them to do the work that our people don’t want to do. That doesn’t mean they don’t need to know the rules of the road and obey them!

How many people are driving that should not be? Look at how many people have driver’s licenses (legally or not legally) or are they valid?

What rules does the Motor Vehicle Division have to get a license? At what expense or price are we paying for this? Money can’t be the main factor; safety should be.

The county adjusts red light timing to account for bad drivers. There are state regulations on the timing of red, yellow and green lights which stem from the county, MVD and police.

MVD holds strict driving rules to get a license. Police should be enforcing rules of the road. I know Sun City West is not a city, but if people want there to be rules, let the people know what it would entail and cost to become a city with a city hall and a mayor, police department, etc. They decide what they want.

They complain but that’s why it’s where it’s at today. Complaining means it needs changing, so don’t complain if you don’t want change!

Checking for driver’s licenses and insurance would cost money and more police than we have available.

Will the article on the accident at R.H. Johnson Boulevard and Trail Ridge Drive help wake people up? Was the driver not licensed or illegal, or had no insurance and maybe no current plates either?

This area was put together on a shoestring and now people want the whole shoe. This costs money!!
