The Recreation Centers of Sun City board has directed management staff to extend the lease of the current libraries at the Bell and Fairway recreation centers for one year, in a statement released April 2.
The release comes days after the Maricopa County Library District informed the Friends of the Sun City Libraries of the RCSC’s intent to change the terms of lease with the MCLD to phase out the libraries at the two recreation centers.
The news sparked a firestorm of support of the libraries from Sun City residents, who have initiated email, telephone and petition campaigns to save them.
