Sun City resident Dr. Lydia Woods, a seasoned multi-event athlete with a track record spanning two decades, made a comeback at the 2024 Masters Indoor Track & Field Championships, held March 21-24 in Chicago, her hometown.
Returning to her TNT International track team for the first time since the pandemic in 2020, she brought her multi-events points to the competition.
As a multi-event athlete, Woods consistently contributes more than 40 points to any team in previous years. With her return, she earned a crucial 40 points for the TNT International women’s team, catapulting them to the first-place position with an overall score of 293 points.
Her contribution marks a significant turnaround for the TNT International women’s team, which had previously clinched third place in the Nationals last year.
“It’s an honor to compete alongside such talented women athletes and represent TNT International,” said Woods. “Returning to the team and contributing to our success in such a meaningful way is truly by the Grace of God and a highlight of my career.”
As a Masters track and field athlete, inspirational speaker and author who encourages people to care for themselves through the lifespan, Woods shares her testimony of overcoming sickness and obesity to become a two-time world gold medalist in Masters track and field, a national senior Olympian and USATF gold medalist.
“I had no idea what awaited me for my 20th year of competing in my hometown over the four-day competition. Winning silver medals in the 3000m run, pole vault, and 800m run, as well as securing bronze medals in the super weight throw, long jump and triple jump then in addition fourth place ribbons in the shot put, weight throw, 400m run and the 4X400 relay caused me to dig deep within myself and consistently pray for strength,” she said.
In 2008, Woods set out on a “quest” to be the first person to be nationally ranked in all 22 single events in track and field. She completed that quest Aug. 2 at the Southeast Sports Festival, held at Florida State University.
