The Royal Oaks Strummers of Sun City recently performed at the Congregational Church of Sun City, 18041 N. 99th Ave., under the leadership of musical director Jane Higgs.
Higgs, a retired music instructor, has sung and performed all over Sun City and is a member of the Royal Oaks Assisted Living Community, 10015 W. Royal Oak Road.
The 30-member ukulele singing group has been around for the past seven years and its members all are residents at the Royal Oaks senior community.
The Strummers were invited to perform by the Ladies Fellowship who sponsored a birthday lunch for those women who celebrated their 90th or older birthdays. The Strummers sang “Happy Birthday” to the 14 women who were there to celebrate, along with their friends. They also performed a medley of songs from “This Land is Your Land” to “Music, Music, Music.”
This is the first time the Royal Oaks Strummers have performed off campus. They hold repeated performances for people in the Royal Oaks community including the care center, memory care unit and regular concerts for the community.
