Reading for the Blind group hosts recipe book sale, dessert auction fundraiser

Do you like to cook, or know someone who does? Would you be interested in buying a delectable homemade dessert and helping a great cause at the same time? And do you enjoy having fun and winning raffle prizes? If you answered “yes” to any of these, then Recorded Recreational Reading for the Blind (RRRB) has the perfect place for you to be 3:30-5 p.m. Friday, May 27.
That is when the 51-year-old nonprofit will simultaneously launch a recipe book sale and host a dessert auction fundraiser to help the organization continue providing its free services to the low vision and physically challenged in the West Valley.
The book sale and dessert auction will be held in the Glendale Christian Church Fellowship Hall, 9661 N. 59th Ave.
The newly printed recipe book, consisting of six major categories and 158 favorite recipes submitted by RRRB volunteers, will be offered for sale at a cost of $15 per book. The dessert auction will include spirited bidding for delicious desserts straight from the recipe book’s pages and prepared by the volunteers who submitted them.
Fred Rothert, member of several local bands and an RRRB reading volunteer, will be master of ceremonies for the event, and will keep the bidding lively and fun for all who attend. Great raffle prizes will also make everyone’s attendance worthwhile.
RRRB is made up of nearly all volunteers who weekly read, record and distribute free of charge digitized cartridges containing local news and activities so that recipients can listen at will and at a speed comfortable for them, stay connected to what’s happening in the community, and feel less isolated.
“We invite everyone to attend,” stated Development Director Pat Centner. “Please consider coming out, having fun and helping a very worthwhile cause. Mark your calendar now!”
