Tremble Clefs come to Sun City

Posted

The West Side Tremble Clefs will present its first Fall Concert 3 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 18, at the American Lutheran Church, 17200 N. Del Webb Blvd.

The concert will be directed by Jihyeon Ryu, the Tremble Clefs newest interim music director. Ryu graduated from Arizona State University with a master’s degree in music therapy.

The Tremble Clefs is a music therapy group for people with Parkinson’s disease, their family members and caregivers with no musical experience expected or required. Decreased voice volume and a monotone quality are common symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease.

This program provides vocal, movement exercises and generates learning and comfortable challenges in a shared supportive environment.

The Tremble Clefs grew from a Parkinson’s support group in Scottsdale in 1994. In 2008, the Muhammad Ali Parkinson’s Center contracted Sun Joo Lee to establish a music therapy group for people with Parkinson’s in Sun City.

Lee and volunteers in the West Valley founded the West Side Tremble Clefs in 2008. In 2019, services were expanded to Sun Lakes. The program is currently implemented through four geographically separated groups in the Pheonix metropolitan area: The Original Tremble Clefs in Scottsdale, West Side Tremble Clefs in Sun City, Sun Lakes Tremble Clefs in Sun Lakes and Mesa Tremble Clefs in Mesa.
