Yavapai Elementary community BBQ, reopening celebration is May 18

From 5 to 7 p.m., there will be a welcome back BBQ event for next school year’s Yavapai Elementary School students, their families and the Yavapai school community on Wednesday, May 18, at 701 N. Miller Road, Scottsdale.
The Yavapai Elementary Community BBQ and Campus Reopening Celebration will is for elementary students in kindergarten through fourth grades, who attend Yavapai at Hohokam Elementary and Tonalea K-8; their families; Yavapai’s 2022-2023 school year administrators, teachers and staff; and school neighbors.
Yavapai Elementary School will host the community barbecue to welcome students and families to the campus that will reopen for learning on Aug. 3, for the 2022-2023 school year, according to a press release.
This is the first of several opportunities for the Yavapai Elementary School community to gather at the Miller Road school, which has been closed this school year, the release said.
Tonalea K-8 Principal Dr. David Priniski, who was named Yavapai’s new principal, and his newly-appointed Yavapai staff will be oversee fun, dinner, and provide school tours to students, families and neighbors, acquainting or reacquainting them with the Yavapai campus.
Student musical performances will be featured and students will receive free “Hear the Thunder” T-shirts to mark the school’s reopening, noted the release.
The recent decision to reconfigure the Coronado Learning Community to create a stand-alone middle school at Tonalea, and the subsequent redrawing of CLC elementary school attendance boundaries, will result in Tonalea’s current elementary grade students moving to Yavapai for the 2022-2023 school year.
Yavapai students who have been learning at Hohokam Elementary this school year have the option to return to their home campus in August, added the release.
