Study: Teachers say their profession is ‘a hard job’

Deer Valley Unified is in the midst of considering salary increases

Teachers in a national study out this month want the public to know that their profession is a difficult job and that they are hardworking.

Slightly more than half (51%) of respondents made that the most popular answer offered when asked what teachers want Americans to know about teaching. Other answers included that teachers care about their students (22%), that teachers are undervalued (17%), and that teachers are underpaid (15%).

Pew Research Center asked 2,531 public K-12 teachers in October and November what’s the one thing that they want the public to know about their jobs. Pew is a nonpartisan, nonadvocacy research group that examines issues and trends through public opinion polling, demographic research, content analysis, and other data-driven social science research. Pew does not take policy positions.
