Join the Sun Lakes Senior Games” project team

Posted

Come join the development team and help carve the way to make the Sun Lakes Senior Games a success.

With a target of the games beginning in March 2025, the focus is to create a friendly competition among peer age groups within the Sun Lakes communities — Sun Lakes Country Club, IronOaks, Cottonwood Palo Verde and Sunbird.

Residents will face off within each community for a week. The emerging top seeds will then compete, the following week, against the other communities.

Each will have the goal of bringing back a trophy to their HOA.

The games are not just physically intensive sports like tennis, pickelball, golf and swimming, but also include low or no-impact games like billiards, bocce ball, card games, corn hole, dancing, etc.

The games not only will create comraderie, but also will provide the path for participants to compete at the state and national levels, as we plan to eventually partner with the National Senior Olympics Organization.

To make this happen, we need people from each of the communities to become part of the board of directors, team event managers and support volunteers.

We also need club leaders to help us set rules and guidelines along with various businesses and foundations for sponsorship, and we welcome enthusiastic volunteers from Chandler as well.

As you can see, this is a big project that will hopefully grow into an every-other-year event.

We are looking for founding board members to fill the volunteer positions of secretary (documentation), finance expert (treasurer), accountant, legal expert, volunteer coordinator, communications expert / PR / marketer (fundraiser), nonprofit expert and club leaders.

If you are interested in creating a long-lasting event, contact Ray Texeira at slgt1@yahoo.com for more information.

If you like the idea of the games but are not interested in becoming part of a team, you can still help us by letting your friends, club members and neighbors know about this project.

Being a full-time resident is preferred, but is not an absolute requirement. Thank you for your consideration and we’re looking forward to hear from you.
