Sun Health Foundation celebrates partnership after Boswell award

Sun Health Foundation officials are celebrating their partnership with Banner Boswell Medical Center after the Sun City Hospital was named one of the best in the state.

Banner Boswell last month ranked second overall among Arizona hospitals in a U.S. News Best Hospitals audit. The report analyzed almost 5,000 hospitals’ performance.

The medical center recorded “high performing” rankings in several categories including aortic valve surgery, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, colon cancer surgery, diabetes, heart bypass surgery, heart failure, hip replacement, knee replacement, lung cancer surgery, and stroke.

The foundation is the exclusive philanthropic partner of Banner Boswell and supports the Sun City hospital through donations, classes and services.

“We’re immensely proud to be the exclusive philanthropic partner for Banner Boswell and Banner Del E. Webb medical centers,” said foundation Chair Joan Smith in a press release. “Throughout the past 55 years, Sun Health Foundation has raised a total of $500 million from the community to fund advanced technology, equipment, and construction that ensures the medical teams at these hospitals have what is needed to provide care rivaled among the best.”

Stan Holm, CEO of Banner Boswell and Banner Del E. Webb in Sun City West, said the U.S. News honor is a tribute to the foundation’s efforts during the years to ensure the Sun Cities have quality health care.

“This is a true testament to our continuous focus on improving patient outcomes and service,” he said in a press release. “We’re also immensely grateful for our caring communities and their support — past, present, and future. Together, we’ll continue to meet evolving health care needs and remain on the cutting edge of clinical excellence.”

Joe La Rue, CEO of Sun Health, said the recognition was a tribute to all the work done over the years to bolster the area’s health care system.

“Our connection runs deep — dating back to the 1960s when the first area residents launched a community-wide fund drive to support construction of this fine medical center and bring much-needed health care to the community,” La Rue said in a press release. “This began a legacy of generosity that has grown stronger through the decades to ensure expanding health care needs were met. Today, as new health care needs emerge, we invite our community to join us in making future medical innovations possible.”
