Beth Emeth Congregation of the West Valley, 13702 W. Meeker Blvd., will host a mini course, “What is Hanukkah?” led by Hazzan Lev Ettelson, 4-5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, 11 and 18. Ettelson will review a variety of primary sources (beginning with the Talmud) on the history, customs and laws of Hanukkah.
Classes are free for Beth Emeth members and nonmembers pay $5. All are welcome.
The congregation is also offering a grief support group beginning 4 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, facilitated by Dr. Michael Weinberg and his wife Judy.
Dr. Weinberg received his masters degree in marriage and family development from Kansas State University. He received his doctorate, also from Kansas State university, in adult education specializing in mental health counseling. He has been a mental health clinician for 54 years and is licensed in Arizona as a licensed professional counselor with supervisory status. He held senior level positions at The Meadows and Banner Thunderbird Medical Center in the Department of Behavioral Health. He is a clinical supervisor and has mentored over several hundred therapists over the span of his career.
Judith Weinberg, RN (retired), has spent most of her nursing career centered in home health care and hospice. As a hospice nurse she would counsel patients accepting their reality and also providing support to family members. She has experience in wound care and helping her patients cope with the challenges of life. She frequently worked with patients who lost their spouse and are now dealing with loneliness.
This group is free for Beth Emeth members and costs $5 per session for non-members. All are welcome to participate.
