No longer sought by ASU, Phoenix's Louis Emerson House heads toward national historic designation

This summer, Arizona State University dropped a controversial eminent domain case to seize the 124-year-old Louis Emerson House in downtown Phoenix. That house is now taking a step toward being placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The house, at 623 N. Fourth Street, is already listed on the city of Phoenix’s Historic Property Register. The city has now done its part to put it on the national register as well.

The Phoenix Historic Preservation Commission on Monday approved a Certified Local Government review for the house. The commission is agreeing that the property is eligible for the National Register of Historic Places and that the federal government’s documentation is accurate and complete, though Phoenix staff did make a few small edits.
