PUSD seniors honored with $64M in scholarships

Peoria Unified School District’s graduating class of 2017 secured more than $64 million in scholarships to post-secondary institutions.
This amount includes scholarships for vocational schools, in-state and out-of-state merit-based recognitions, private donor and athletic scholarships.
Liberty High School seniors earned $12.5 million in scholarships. Ironwood High School seniors received $ 12.4 million. Centennial High School seniors earned $ 10.8 million. Sunrise Mountain High School seniors received $8.8 million. Peoria High School seniors earned $ 7.4 million. Raymond S. Kellis High School seniors received $7.4 million. Cactus High School seniors earned $5.3 million in scholarships, and Peoria Flex Academy seniors received $1,200 in scholarships.
To assist students with college planning, test preparation, financial aid and scholarships, there is a Career Center at each of the district’s seven high schools. District high school guidance counselors and career center specialists help to highlight seniors and their achievements to various colleges in order to identify potential scholarship opportunities.
In addition, each career center specialist maintains a scholarship database and the information is used to contact students who might be interested in a particular scholarship, remind students of important deadlines and schedule college visits.
