As part of one board member’s ongoing effort to have only certain items on a consent agenda, the Chandler Unified School District Governing Board had a thorough discussion at its April 24 meeting before voting on an action item.
Board member Kurt Rohrs explained, during the meeting, why he asked for a request of almost an additional $300,000 for community education enrichment programs be made an action item on the board’s agenda.
“I asked for this to be moved from the consent agenda, over to action, because I thought it was in the wrong place, not that I’m opposed to it,” Rohrs said. “Things on the consent agenda should be routine or recurring. An example is the student travel planning report; it’s on there every time. Things that we’ve previously agreed on, but need to be approved by the board.”
