Salt River Project is in the process of renewing its Arizona Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit for the Kyrene Generating Station in Tempe and is currently accepting comments for the renewal through Sept. 29.
According to a press release, SRP applied for a renewal permit for the proposed discharge of cooling tower blowdown, low-volume wastewater and stormwater from the Kyrene Generating System to the Salt River.
The Kyrene Generating Station is a steam electric power generating facility located at 7005 South Kyrene Road.
Comments regarding the station’s permit renewal can be sent via email to Rowe.Julia@azdeq.gov or mailed to the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality at 1110 W. Washington St., Phoenix, AZ, 85007.
All written comments received by ADEQ by the close of business on Sept. 29 after publication of this notice will be considered in the final permit decision, the release detailed.
A public hearing request must be in writing and must include the reasons for such request. If there is a significant degree of public interest, the director will hold a hearing.
Editor's Note: A previous version of this story referenced information regarding the Kyrene Water Reclamation Facility, unrelated to the Kyrene Generating Station, an entity operated by SRP. The station has been in operation since the 1950s.
