Phoenix police said a Goodyear bank robbery suspect will remain in the hospital for at least two weeks following an officer-involved shooting on Interstate 10 New Year's Eve.
The incident started when a suspect fled the scene of a robbery near Litchfield and McDowell roads in Goodyear.
Police and the Arizona Department of Public Safety followed the suspect vehicle along eastbound I-10 onto and around the Loop 101 Agua, down Interstate 17 and back onto I-10 westbound.
While on I-17, a spike strip was successful in disabling a tire. However, the suspect vehicle continued before a DPS vehicle spun it around on westbound I-10 near 43rd Avenue.
Phoenix police said Goodyear and DPS officials approached the suspect vehicle in attempt to arrest the suspect.
"On approach, a Goodyear officer saw that the suspect was pointing what appeared to be a gun at him," police stated.
Police said the officer shot at the suspect, and two other Goodyear officers fired as well, striking the suspect.
The 34-year-old male suspect was taken to the hospital, last reported with life-threatening injuries.
Police will release his identity once he is booked into jail.
