Families will gather to fish together in Glendale this weekend.

The city’s free “Hook a Kid on Fishing” clinic returns at 8 a.m. Saturday, April 22 at Bonsall Park, 5821 W. Bethany Home Road.

“The ‘Hook a Kid on Fishing’ event is in its 10th year and is one of my favorite events in the city,” Glendale City Councilmember Jamie Aldama, of the Ocotillo District, shared in a news releasse. “This is a day where children and family members of all ages can enjoy the great outdoors right here in their city. I look forward to a free fishing day with our community.”

The Glendale recreation division invites children of all ages and their families out for a fun-filled morning. There will be prize drawings, free food, water, snacks and more. Loaner fishing poles will be available thanks to the Arizona Game & Fish Department, and no fishing license is required.

“We are excited to host this great community event,” Glendale’s Senior Recreation Coordinator Manuel Padia stated. “We will have staff available to work with the kids on how to properly set up fishing lines and to answer any other questions they may have.”

The event runs until noon and no preregistration is required.

The Parks and Recreation Department will hold its next free clinic in October at Heroes Regional Park Lake.
