Phoenix plans $25.2 million for public art over next 5 years

The city of Phoenix is spending more on public art than ever before, with $25.2 million in projects planned during the next five years, up nearly $5.3 million from last year’s five-year plan.

A big reason for that increase is the general obligation bond projects Phoenix voters approved last November, which will include $3.7 million for public art. Also, the new projects being added – totaling $7.6 million – cost more than what was spent in the last year and taken off the five-year plan. A large contributor of new projects is $4.5 million for public art projects at a new concourse at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

Continuing projects account for about $13.8 million.
