Members of the Estrella Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, delivered pizzas to Banner Del Webb emergency room staff in observance of National DAR Day of Service Oct. 11.

Pizzas were also delivered to the Banner Boswell Emergency Room staff.

Community service has played a central role in DAR’s mission since the society’s founding in 1890.

“We want a society founded on service,” said DAR Founder Eugenia Washington.

To honor the anniversary of DAR’s founding, chapters and members are encouraged to engage in service projects in their communities each year on or about Oct. 11. Projects may range from sending cards of encouragement to active duty military, collecting books for school children, cleaning a cemetery and more.

Daughters of the American Revolution Society was founded in 1890 with the simple mission of promoting historic preservation, education and patriotism and these timeless overarching principles keep the DAR and its chapters strong and vitally relevant in this ever-changing world.

Women descendants of persons who served or aided the cause of the Revolution are eligible to join.

Call Nixon, 623-332-7894, for more information.

Estrella Chapter meets monthly on the second Thursday of each month, October through May, at the Sun City West Foundation, 14465 W. R.H. Johnson Blvd.
