Enzweiler: Group begins annual collection of oranges in Sun City

Posted

The last Saturday of January was the kickoff to an annual event.

A group of about 25 volunteers braved the morning temperatures to start an annual collection of the oranges on North 107th Avenue just south of West Peoria Avenue.

This has been a continuing tradition for decades. This year to start the collection was a little early, usually the temperatures are not as cool as they have been this year. But 94 bags of oranges were collected. This was completed in a little more than one hour. Ninety-two orange bags, not a pun, were set out for the county to pick up as they do the rounds on Monday or Tuesday mornings.
