PHOENIX — The list of items local governments must address, as direct or indirect results of the COVID-19 pandemic, seems never-ending.
Wednesday, the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors addressed yet another of those items.
By unanimously approving a set of items on its agenda, the board agreed to contract with the parent company of Foodworks to provide meals for “people affected by COVID-19,” according to the contract.
The per-meal contract starts Feb. 1 and runs through Dec. 31, 2024. A letter from a Foodworks manager to the board shows prices are $9 for breakfasts, $10 for lunches and $11 for dinners.
Deliveries will be made by Foodworks to an Elliot Road location in Tempe, according to the letter, seven days per week, between 10:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.
Foodworks prefers a double dropoff on Christmas Eve and the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.
The vendor requests a 40-person minimum per day and 120 meals per day. The contract calls for the vendor to have the capacity to serve 300 meals every day.
The vendor also wants a two- to three-week notice to start service. Foodworks wants to implement a 10- to 14-day rotation of menu items.
Menu items are subject to changed or substituted due to shortages by purveyors or extreme increases in costs.
A 30-day advance notice will be given if a price increase is needed due to supply chain issues and inflation, the letter states.
Compass Group, which owns Foodworks, is based in Charlotte, North Carolina. The company says it has serviced a number of clients that have an Arizona presence, such as Intel, Honeywell, American Express, Charles Schwab and United Technologies.
