Coronado Elementary School Principal Jeff Armstrong made good on a promise Saturday to conquer his fears and go skydiving for the first time if the community met its yearly fundraising goal of $35,000.
Coronado families more than rose to the occasion and ended up raising $44,350 for the purpose of putting on the school's seasonal festivals, supporting teachers and renovating the school library.
Armstrong then made his dive with Skydive Arizona in Eloy, about an hour south of Gilbert.
Armstrong jumped in front of a crowd of friends and families to cheer him on.
“We want to let our community know what an amazing principal we have at Coronado and the kinds of things we can accomplish when we all work together,” said Kim Monroe, Coronado’s PTO president.
