Buckeye takes top honors at Best of the West Awards

Posted

Buckeye won two awards at this month’s WESTMARC Best of the West ceremony.

The Buckeye Rail Corridor took the top spot for the Economic Engine Award, which recognizes the creation of significant economic outcomes and job creation for the West Valley. Buckeye Mayor Eric Orsborn was selected as part of the President’s Choice Award for his work with other West Valley Mayors on Proposition 400.

The Buckeye Rail Corridor is part of a strategic effort from the city's Economic Development Department to support and sustain the city’s rapid growth.

Two massive developments are currently under construction in this corridor including the Ross Dress for Less Western Distribution Center, which totals more than 1.7 million square feet and will create over 1,300 jobs, and the 1.2 million square foot Southern Industrial Center, which will be the largest speculative building in Buckeye and the closest to the California market when completed later this year.

Both projects represent a combined capital investment of $675 million.

Orsborn and the West Valley Mayors Coalition received their award for their leadership in coming together to get Proposition 400 on the ballot for the General Election in November 2024.

The Best of the West awards began in 1993 to recognize outstanding contributions to the West Valley. The 31st annual event took place at Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale.
