Buckeye council to run $370,000 water line

Posted

The city of Buckeye’s Water Resources Department wants to run a 1.5-mile water reach line.

It has $500,000 in its Fiscal 2022 budget to do so.

As part of its capital improvement program, the Water Resources Department is requested a 16-inch water distribution line be installed from the existing 16-inch reach line at the intersection of Rainbow and Broadway roads to the Jackie A. Meck Water Campus Reservoir, according to a staff report.

While the city has budgeted $500,000 in this year’s capital improvement plan to connect the water line, a contract with Kimley-Horn and Associates for the project is for $370,000. It’s one of several expensive items on the consent agenda for the Buckeye City Council at its 6 p.m. regular meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 4.

This reach line will provide another source of potable water to help fill the reservoir during high-demand periods.

Another item on the Jan. 4 consent agenda will be a contract for improvements to Buckeye Municipal Airport.

A bid for the reconstruction and realignment of approximately 11,500 square yards of Taxiway “D3” and Taxiway “J” will cost about $232,000, to be paid using an FAA grant.

“The existing pavement is experiencing varying degrees of distress and is in need of reconstruction, including lighting and signage, in order to upgrade and meet requirements and rehabilitation required for airport maintenance,” a staff report states.
An original design for airport improvements had a base bid that included reconstruction of the southern aircraft parking apron. That work was completed in November 2020.

Another item on the consent agenda is a consulting contract with the firm Hazen and Sawyer for $122,000. That firm will prepare recommendations on repair or replacement of 64 manhole covers in the city.

The consent agenda also includes a map to be approved for the intersection of Miller and Lower Buckeye roads accounting for additional rights-of-way to allow for traffic signals.

The only stand-alone unique action item on the Jan. 4 regular meeting agenda is to choose a vice mayor for calendar 2023. Tony Youngker was vice mayor for 2022; municipal elections are set for August for four of the seven Council seats.

Prior to the regular meeting, two other meetings will be held.

An executive session to review candidates for the city manager position is set for 3 p.m.

A Council workshop, to include a presentations on the I-10/Verrado Way makeover and widening and from Sintra Hoffman of WESTMARC, is set for 4:30 p.m.
