Tempe to spend $2.6M to restore, improve historic cemetery

The Double Butte Cemetery, on the west side of Tempe, was built in 1897 is the final resting place to many historic leaders.

Now, after more than 129 years of beloveds being lay to rest, the city is investing more than $2.6 million toward renovations for accessibility, irrigation and historical restoration.

During a virtual meeting on Sept. 16, city Parks and Recreation Director Alex Jovanovic explained how the property's current conditions need to be restored and how the design plans to preserve the historical elements of the property.
