INDEPENDENT NEWSMEDIA
A Friday night concert will provide Music Under the Stars April 28 at Tempe Diablo Stadium.
Bands from all six Tempe Union High School District schools will join professional musicians to entertain 7:30-9 p.m. The event is free.
Participating high school ensembles include Corona del Sol Band, Corona del Sol Steel Drum Band, Desert Vista Band, Desert Vista Steel Drum Band, Marcos de Niza Band, Marcos de Niza Mariachi Ensemble, McClintock Band, Mountain Pointe Band and Tempe High Band.
They will be accompanied by members of Arizona Wind Symphony and Tempe Winds.
“It's important that we as a city support local arts and especially our young musicians who will be the next generation performing in our venues and spaces," said Berdetta Hodge, Tempe councilmember and Tempe Union High School District government board member.
“This event is such a great opportunity to get outside, enjoy the spring weather and show support for our local music makers.”
TUHSD Superintendent Dr. Kevin J. Mendivil said the event “is so special because it brings together students, parents, professional musicians and the larger community to come experience a fun, exciting night of music.”
“I know our students greatly appreciate the opportunity to perform in such a unique space for hundreds of spectators.”
Concessions stands and food trucks will be open to purchase food and drinks. Parking is available for free.
Animals are not permitted in the stadium except for certified service dogs for individuals with disabilities, according to event organizers.
