2 Peoria Unified board members do about-face on override vote

After supporting a new override proposed for the upcoming November election and an override that failed in 2025, two Peoria Unified governing board members did an about-face regarding a resolution to place the new override on the ballot.

President Heather Rooks at the April 23 meeting abstained from voting on the resolution. Board member Janelle Bowles at the meeting voted against of the resolution.

This came two weeks after the April 9 meeting when the board directed staff to move forward with the resolution, as well as a meeting earlier this year when they voted to begin the process of putting the override on the ballot.
