Wood: The names behind the infamous Phillips’ GoFundMe account

Posted

For the benefit of the citizens and voters of Scottsdale, I have decided, on my own, to release the names of the donors who contributed the $2,400 to the GoFundMe account that was set up to help my long-time friend, Guy Phillips.

Political agents of the high-density developers have used this issue to file a bogus ethics complaint against Guy, and, without any evidence, imply that I was involved in a conspiracy to covertly raise illegal campaign funds from anonymous donors.

A three-judge panel dismissed this bogus complaint finding that there was no wrongdoing with the GoFundMe account.

I am angry about unscrupulous people smearing me in the documents that were filed with the court, and in numerous publications. The names of donors were only kept anonymous based on advice I received from the city. But there is no reason to keep these names anonymous anymore.

It is disgraceful that Guy’s political opponents are trying to keep this issue alive.

At last Tuesday’s council meeting, Councilmember Korte was the only council person who refused to accept the three-judge’s findings. However, she sees no ethical problem about soliciting more than $70,000 of campaign donations from the pro-development cabal in her run for mayor.

The published GoFundMe posting stated: “our friend Guy Phillips broke his leg when he fell off a ladder doing his job, repairing an air conditioner. Guy has always helped his friends and family, and now it is time for us to be there for him. He is self employed so, he can’t work and the bills are piling up. Recovery will be a long process.”
