Waymo adding teen accounts in Valley

Waymo is launching a new program to provide secure rides for teens in its Valley service area.

The move, announced on a blog this week, will allow for teen accounts for those age 14-17. The teen accounts would be linked to the account of a parent or guardian, who would invite the teen to join.

The service, according to Waymo, would have trained support staff to assist teens with issues and would be able to include parents if necessary.

The system recently rolled out with early access within the Phoenix area, but the company is now taking it to its full service area of 315 square miles around the region.

Waymo was an early entrant into driverless ride-hailing services in the Valley. It's coverage area currently is primarily through central Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe and portions of west Mesa and west Chandler.
