Scottsdale Firefighter Charities raised more than $100,000, a new record for its annual Behind the Flames fundraiser, as supporters gathered at Mastro’s City Hall Sunday, Sept. 27, to recognize outstanding service and help extend the organization’s reach throughout the Scottsdale community.

The 27th annual event brought firefighters, community leaders, sponsors and supporters together for an evening centered on the people who serve Scottsdale, both in and out of uniform. Proceeds from the event help Scottsdale Firefighter Charities support firefighters and their families while funding programs and organizations that assist local youth, seniors, families and others throughout the community.

The evening also honored Scottsdale Firefighter of the Year Rey Igliane for his dedication and service to the Scottsdale Fire Department.

Behind the Flames also honored four C.A.R.E. Award recipients whose work has had an impact across Scottsdale and the state. This year’s honorees included longtime Arizona sports journalist and radio personality Dan Bickley, Jeremy Duda, George Weisz and Melissa Schalles.
