Nestled into a Downtown Scottsdale business complex and tucked away in the back, the glass doors open into a room with grand crystal chandeliers, a carefully curated interior, pink velvet electric mahjong tables and green velvet tufted chairs arranged in rows throughout the long space.
Soft music plays as Mahj Club members focus on their strategy and their games, while owner and manager Julia Zastrow greets anyone walking in with a smile on her face and a warm welcome at the door.
Zastrow started her business, The Mahj Clubs, as just a club between her and her friends a few years ago. They wanted a way to connect with friends, do something analog that challenges the brain and get off the screens after COVID, Zastrow said.
