Gas prices in the Valley dropped slightly despite more instability in the Middle East, as a gallon of gas averaged $4.62 a gallon, down one cent from last week, according to AAA Arizona.
“Pump prices are currently comparable to early June of this year,” said David Caltabiano, AAA Mountain West Group spokesperson in a release on Thursday. “The state and national average are both increasing during a season when gas prices typically go down due to lower gasoline demand after Labor Day.”
The highest gas price in Queen Creek is down to $4.69 a gallon from last week's $4.75.
However, prices are rising on the lower end. The lowest price for a gallon of regular is at the Costco on 20220 S. Ellsworth Road. The price there climbed to $4.49 a gallon from $4.25 last week, according to gasbuddy.com.
Aside from Costco, gas prices in Queen Creek are ranging from $4.61 to $4.69 for a gallon of regular, gasbuddy.com reports.
Prices in the state rose four cents a gallon this week to $4.57 a gallon, which is up $1.01 a gallon over the same time a year ago.
Volatility in the Strait of Hormuz had pushed crude oil prices back in the $100 per barrel range this week for the first time since July.
However, at the close of Wednesday’s formal trading session, oil rose $3.02 to settle at $96.05 a barrel. The Energy Information Association reports that U.S. crude oil inventories decreased 0.4 million barrels to 424.1 million barrels, matching the five-year average.
Gasoline demand decreased last week from 8.92 million barrels per day to 8.55 million. Total domestic gasoline supply increased from 205.7 million to 206.9 million barrels. Gasoline production decreased last week from 9.8 million barrels per day to 9.3 million barrels.
Arizona fell to ninth this week in the most expensive gas markets, behind California ($5.89), Washington ($5.53), Hawaii ($5.40), Oregon ($5.06), Alaska ($5.05), Nevada ($5.01), Idaho ($4.76) and Utah ($4.68).
According to gasbuddy.com, the cheapest gas in the Valley can be found at the Costco at Interstate 10 and Verrado Way in Buckeye for $3.75 a gallon.
